News: Community invited to shape plans

Community invited to shape plans for new homes and public space at Guildford Cathedral

Workshops: Saturday 30th November 2019

VIVID and Guildford Cathedral will be holding their first public workshop session on Saturday 30th November, to help shape the plans for proposed new homes and public space to the east and south of the Cathedral grounds.

This session is open to the public and for people to drop in at any time. It will be held at Guildford United Reformed Church on Portsmouth Road in Guildford, from 11am to 4pm. For those who wish to take part in the workshops during the day, detailed timings will be confirmed soon.

VIVID and Guildford Cathedral are the delivery partners for the proposed new scheme. Their vision is for much-needed homes in a sustainable, attractive new place with improved connections with the town centre for all residents in the area. The workshop is an opportunity for local people to help them – along with architect JTP – to create the plans and designs for the new neighbourhood.

The planning application will be for approximately 100 new houses and apartments, including around 35% affordable housing as well as replacement housing for Cathedral staff. The delivery partners are also exploring the possibility of providing a care home.

Mike Shepherd, Director of New Business and Development at VIVID, said: “We’re really looking forward to working with the community to design this new development in Guildford. I’d encourage people to come to our workshop and exhibition and help us create a scheme that complements the local area and directly benefits people with shared space and public facilities.”

The Very Reverend Dianna Gwilliams, Dean of Guildford, said: “We hope that as many people as possible will join us for the workshop to ensure the designs for new homes and public space truly represent the wishes of the community. We’re especially excited to offer the chance for people to engage with the project online too – this is a great way for a wider range of people to share their views on our proposals.”

Date: Saturday 30th November 2019

Time: 11am – 4pm (workshop timings during the day to be confirmed)

Location: Guildford United Reformed Church, 83 Portsmouth Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 4BS
