Stag Hill Review | 2024

Stag Hill Review 2024

As we look back on 2024, Guildford Cathedral once again stands proud as a place of worship, welcome and wonder. It was a year of new beginnings, joyful creativity, and moments of significance — each one strengthening our role at the heart of the community and within the wider Diocese.

One of the most anticipated announcements came in the autumn, as we welcomed the news that a new Dean, The Very Reverend, Bob Cooper would be in installed in January 2025. This marks an exciting new chapter for the Cathedral, and we look forward with hope and confidence to the leadership and vision that lies ahead.

Among the year’s standout successes was our delightfully unexpected Postbox Toppers exhibition — a vibrant, community-led project that drew thousands of visitors. These miniature woollen works of art brought colour, charm and joy to Stag Hill, capturing imaginations and reminding us that creativity and kindness often go hand in hand.

We welcomed and installed the new Bishop of Dorking, a service filled with prayer, music and the promise of fresh ministry. Moments like these remind us of our sacred role as a spiritual home for the Diocese and beyond.

Alongside these milestones, our regular rhythm of worship, music, education and outreach continued to thrive. From school visits and concerts to quiet moments of reflection, 2024 was a year where the Cathedral remained open, active, and deeply connected to those we serve.

To all our supporters, partners, funders and friends: thank you. The story of 2024 is yours as much as it is ours. We hope this review offers a glimpse into all you helped make possible.
